"Stillman breathes life and character into her songs, encouraging her listeners to grow with her...She uses her music as a way to escape from the expectations of a bustling world, taking a moment to create for the love of it, and it shows in every note." — American Songwriter
Isabelle Stillman’s newest release, Heartrender, comes from a place of vulnerability and awakening that can only be sparked through transition, pitfalls and personal upheaval. Abandoning the path of traditional genre and ignoring any guidelines, Heartrender is a celebration of self-awareness and the strength in surrendering control to the unexpected turns of a life less planned, cracked open, and more beautiful for it.
Isabelle Stillman is a lot of things - a high school teacher, a raging feminist, an aspiring adult - but being the middle sister in her family is the most important: hence, the title of her debut album. Her first full-length project is varied in genre, reflecting the confusing process of becoming an artist and a grown-up, but cohesive in lyric, addressing themes of grounding and aspiration, love and loss, independence and reliance. Isabelle's love of words and depth as an artist are apparent as she introduces herself to the music world. Taste Music called Middle Sister "utterly enthralling" and "beautifully constructed".
COMBO honored single, "Kid," as Colorado's best songwriting of 2019.
